Diamondbacks outlast the Braves 16-13 to snap 4-game losing streak

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 21:36:38 GMT

ATLANTA (AP) — Geraldo Perdomo was determined he would not be intimidated by Atlanta’s five-run first inning.“I just said to my teammates, `If they do it, we can do it back,’” Perdomo said.Perdomo gave Arizona the lead with a two-run double in the ninth inning and the Diamondbacks took advantage of Atlanta’s worst pitching effort of the season to beat the Braves 16-13 on Tuesday night. It was Arizona’s first game in which each team had at least 13 runs and the first in the majors since the Chicago White Sox beat the Cubs 17-13 on Aug. 27, 2021.Just as Perdomo predicted, the Diamondbacks answered Atlanta’s five-run first by scoring five in the second. The high-scoring pace led to a football-like final score.“Couple missed extra points,” Arizona manager Torey Lovullo joked.Said Atlanta manager Brian Snitker: “We kept coming back. They did, too. It was like a Coors Field game.”The NL East-leading Braves have lost three straight. Arizona snapped a four-game ...

A/C repair services in high demand

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 21:36:38 GMT

DENVER (KDVR) -- Local air-conditioning repair companies are working around the clock to respond to calls for repair during Colorado's summer heatwave. "We're up from 5 a.m. 'till 10 o'clock at night," Supreme Home Services Owner Ulises Alfaro said. "Hopefully we get a couple hours of sleep and we're back on it." Does your landlord have to provide AC in Colorado? Tuesday afternoon, Alfaro’s crew was installing both air conditioning and an HVAC system inside a Parker home."This year has been pretty tough for our HVAC division, because of all the rain we've had,” Alfaro said. “Now that the rain has stopped, the phone has not stopped ringing off the hook.”Alfaro suggests homeowners change filters every month in order to avoid issues with their unit.

Red Sox bats go cold against A’s rookie Luis Medina in chaotic 3-0 loss

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 21:36:38 GMT

Wednesday night at the Coliseum began with a bang and ended with a whimper, as the 51-45 Red Sox fell to the 26-71 Oakland A’s, 3-0.The game devolved into chaos almost immediately. After reaching on a triple in the bottom of the first, Tony Kemp attempted to steal home, and got called out due to running too far from the base line. Oakland manager Mark Kotsay protested too much and found himself ejected.Joe Jacques was lucky to escape the first inning. Not so much in the second, as the A’s, who entered the day with the 5th-fewest home runs in the Majors, took a 3-0 lead on a pair of home runs by Ryan Noda and JJ Bleday (with a runner on base).“Didn’t get Strike 1 on a lot of guys, kind of fell behind, and both the homers were 2-strike pitches just left down the middle. And you know, if you leave it there, it’s gonna get punished,” Jacques told reporters. “Just gotta clean it up.”Though Jacques started sporadically in college and the min...

Delicious Thai Lamb Satay made easy

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 21:36:38 GMT

I love lamb satay with a spicy peanut sauce but didn’t want to take the time to make my own sauce. So I was delighted to find a bottle of the sauce at the market. This meant that I could make the satay with very little effort. The lamb only cooks for about 10 minutes on two skewers. Tender lamb cubes cut from the leg of lamb are perfect for this recipe. If you use other cuts of lamb, let them marinate for about 5 minutes longer.Tip for making a satay or kebab: Leave about 1 inch between each lamb cube on the skewer so the heat can reach all sides of the meat.Helpful Hints:In case you prefer to make your own peanut sauce, I’ve given a recipe below. You can make the lamb on a stovetop grill or under a broiler. If using a broiler, place the skewers on a sheet pan.TAG GOES HEREThai Lamb SatayINGREDIENTS1 teaspoon canola oil1 tablespoon rice vinegar1 garlic clove bruised3/4 pound lamb cubes cut from the leg1 1/2 cups microwave brown rice4 cups romaine leaves, torn into bite size pieces1 c...

Lowry: U.S. military doesn’t need DEI programs

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 21:36:38 GMT

House Republicans voted to end diversity, equity and inclusion programs and personnel at the Pentagon, and one wonders whether the U.S. military will ever be the same. The provision was one of a number of anti-“woke” measures in the House-passed National Defense Authorization Act that have occasioned sputtering outrage.According to National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, there’s no way that President Joe Biden would ever sign such legislation “that would put our troops at greater risk or put our readiness at risk.”America’s leaders used to worry that we wouldn’t have enough stopping power to defend against Soviet tanks potentially pouring through the Fulda Gap or a survivable nuclear force in the event of a nuclear first strike; now they worry servicemembers might not be learning enough about microaggressions.Last year, Bishop Garrison, serving at the time as the senior advisor to the Secretary of Defense for human capital and diversi...

Moore: Democrats throwing kids off the school bus

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 21:36:38 GMT

Have you heard the outrageous story of what happened recently in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s capital? Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-Pa.), elected in 2022, had campaigned on school choice for tens of thousands of children, mostly minorities, who are forced to attend failing public schools in places like Philadelphia.“It’s what I believe,” Shapiro, then state attorney general, assured voters as he ran for governor. Last month on a national Fox News broadcast, Shapiro was unequivocal in his support for school choice because “every child of God” deserves “a quality education.”But there’s a force far more powerful in politics than Shapiro’s convictions, such as they are. And that force is the teachers unions. They put on a full-court press to stop the roughly 10,000 vouchers for the poorest kids in Pennsylvania’s worst school districts even though the state budget bill gave billions more for the public schools. It didn’t...
