Warriors: Jackson-Davis ready to pounce on opportunity with Green out indefinitely

PORTLAND — The Warriors are thin enough in the front court. But for the next three weeks, at least, that frontcourt will have to stand on its own without its foundation in Draymond Green. Now, the center rotation especially is a floating mishmash of undefined variables; Kevon Looney has regressed and is sometimes unplayable against mobile, athletic teams. Dario Saric is a floor-spacing asset on offense, but not often the solution on defense.Even with a thin paint presence, rookie center Trayce Jackson-Davis is often buried on the bench, mostly because of a few iffy stints here and there. But the Warriors need him to the front of the bench pronto.Jackson-Davis saw an extended run against Portland when Saric ran into foul trouble early in the first half and gave Golden State a look on both ends they haven’t had consistently since the Zaza Pachulia and JaVale McGee days. The kind of game the coach Steve Kerr could lean in on while the rotation experimentation light is on.Rel...Actor Jonathan Majors guilty of assault, harassment

Majors, who was asked to stand and face the jurors as the verdict was read, showed no immediate reaction, looking slightly downward. His sentencing was set for Feb. 6.The charges stemmed from a dispute between the “Creed III” actor and his girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, that began in the backseat of a chauffeured car and spilled into the streets of Manhattan one night last March.Jabbari, a 30-year-old British dancer, accused Majors of an attack inside the vehicle that left her in “excruciating” pain. The San Jose Sharks – for multiple reasons — would love to see Anthony Duclair respond this week after the veteran forward was healthy scratched by coach David Quinn for the first time this season.Duclair watched Sunday as the Sharks fell behind early and were unable to score a 5-on-5 goal in what became a 6-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche, bringing an end to a 0-2-0 road trip.Among other things, Quinn wasn’t happy that Duclair didn’t hustle to get back onside Friday against the Arizona Coyotes, negating a late third-period goal by Mikael Granlund in what turned into a 1-0 Sharks loss.“He and I have talked about it,” Quinn told reporters Sunday night regarding Duclair. “I’ll keep that conversation between him and I. Listen, he’s had a good stretch here.”Duclair, with six points in his last seven games, figures to be back in the lineup Tuesday as the Sharks play the Los Angeles Kings to start a two-game homestand. In the past, Duclair has shown he can respond to being left out ...Draymond Green to miss at least 3 weeks, undergo counseling: report

A crucial document from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency, or ISI, undermines a major plank in the high-profile prosecution of the country’s former prime minister, Imran Khan.Khan remains behind bars while he faces trial for allegedly mishandling a secret document, known as a cypher, which the prosecution claims compromised the integrity of the encrypted communication system used by the state’s security apparatus. But according to an ISI analysis leaked to The Intercept, that claim is entirely false. Internally, the agency concluded that the leak of the text of a cypher could in no way compromise the integrity of the system, an assessment contrary to public claims made repeatedly by prosecutors. The main charge against Khan relates to his handling of a diplomatic cable describing a key meeting in March 2022 between U.S. and Pakistani officials in Washington. Khan, while prime minister, had repeatedly alluded to the existence of a cypher that outlined U.S. pressure on Paki...US envoys work for new hostage release deal, scale-down of Israel-Hamas war but say no timetable

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The head of the CIA jetted to Europe for talks with Israeli and Qatari officials Monday, sounding out the potential for a deal on a new cease-fire and the release of hostages in Gaza, as the U.S. defense secretary spoke to Israeli military leaders about scaling back major combat operations against Hamas.Still, there was no sign that a shift in the war was imminent after more than two months of devastating bombardment and fighting. Fierce battles raged in northern Gaza, where residents said rescue workers were searching for the dead and the living under buildings flattened by Israeli strikes.Pressure is growing, as France, the U.K. and Germany — some of Israel’s closest allies — joined global calls for a cease-fire over the weekend. Israeli protesters have demanded the government relaunch talks with Hamas on releasing more hostages after three were mistakenly killed by Israeli troops while waving a white flag.U.S. officials have repeatedly expressed concern ab...Latest news
