SANTA CLARA — The 49ers’ 9-year-old home needs a makeover, and the Santa Clara-based franchise wants to tap into the NFL’s proverbial equity line for upgrades ahead of hosting 2026 World Cup soccer games.Seats and scoreboards will be enhanced if the 49ers secure $120 million from the NFL’s stadium fund, which the franchise sought to secure Tuesday at the league meeting in Phoenix, The Athletic reported.Enhancements could also lead to the Super Bowl’s return to Levi’s Stadium, which is owned by the city of Santa Clara and managed by the 49ers in what’s been a contentious relationship. The NFL is to announce in May the sites for Super Bowl 60 and 61; Levi’s Stadium hosted Super Bowl 50 to cap the 2015 season.Renovations would begin next year, after this coming season, and stadium suites could be renovated and expanded, from 170 to 179.“We’re in the heart of Silicon Valley and the heart of the second largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies,” Brent Schoeb, the 49ers’ ...

Pastor Wins Civil Rights Suit Against Trump Administration Border Surveillance

A federal judge in California sided with a pastor who was targeted by U.S. authorities in a border surveillance program under former President Donald Trump. In a 44-page decision last week, Judge Todd Robinson ruled that U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or CBP, officials violated New York City pastor Kaji Dousa’s constitutional rights by adding her to a blacklist of border activists and calling on Mexican authorities to apprehend her — all despite lacking any evidence that she was involved in illegal activity. For Dousa, whose experience The Intercept chronicled in an investigation last year, the victory marked the end of an exhausting ordeal that’s spanned more than four years.“I had two real reasons for going into this — one, of course, to make sure that I’m safe to travel, but the other is that I just wanted it to help people, and from the responses that I’ve been getting, it seems like it will,” Dousa told The Intercept. “I feel like it’s a win for the helpers.”Dousa file...

Their Springfield, Virginia, location was buzzing as hundreds of vehicles dropped off paper and electronics for a trip to the recycling facility instead of to a landfill. It’s a proven strategy that little changes can produce impressive results, but the combined totals of these two events have been truly staggering.*Paper: 120,000 pounds recycled (60 tons)The average ream of 8.5” x 11” copy paper contains 500 sheets and weighs about five pounds.* That’s more than 12 million sheets—enough to create a stack as high as nine Washington Monuments. Baltimore’s new anti-violence strategy targets drug gangs

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 10:04:43 GMT

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore leaders announced criminal indictments Tuesday against 33 people accused of operating a violent drug trafficking organization, saying the prosecution illustrates the continued success of an anti-violence program launched last year in one of America’s most violent cities.Baltimore’s Group Violence Reduction Strategy uses an individualized “focused deterrence” approach to target potential shooters and victims, offering them services and support where possible, in lieu of law enforcement action. But officials said some people, like the 33 defendants facing indictment, are a serious risk to public safety.Nineteen of those indicted have already been arrested, according to a news release from the state attorney general’s office. The others were still being sought Tuesday. They said the arrests should serve as a warning to other people contributing to Baltimore’s high homicide rate.“Don’t let this be you,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said at a news confere...
