Hero teachers save choking student at North Bay school TIBURON, Calif. (KRON) – Some fast thinking and good training likely saved a child’s life in the North Bay. When a seemingly normal lunch break turned into a choking incident, St. Hilary School staff sprung into action.  “I didn’t think much about it at first,” said St. Hilary teacher Tikiya Stewart. “I think I was in shock, but they said you saved a child’s life, and I feel really good about that.”Stewart, known as Kiki at St. Hilary School in Tiburon, says she was on yard duty as usual on Monday. But then the unexpected happened – a child couldn’t breathe because she was choking on her lunch. Three SF restaurants added to Michelin Guide “Some of the kids, at first I was a little skeptical, I mean kids kid all the time,” Stewart said. “But then I was like, ‘This is real.’” Stewart says she didn’t hesitate and stepped in, performing the Heimlich Maneuver. Dr. Marie Bordeleau, the school’s principal, says in her tenure she has focused on emergency preparedness. Nicolyn Charlot, ...

Commissioners in a Montana county remove election oversight from fellow Republican A Montana clerk and recorder who expressed doubt about the integrity of the election process during her 2022 campaign lost her election oversight duties on Tuesday in a vote by county commissioners, reflecting some of the turmoil nationwide since conspiracy theories spread about the 2020 presidential election.Hundreds of people attended the meeting at the Cascade County fairgrounds, and nearly 100 testified either in person or online. More than half the speakers supported Sandra Merchant continuing to oversee elections, at least until her four-year term was up in January 2027. However, one person brought in a petition with 300 signatures in favor of a motion to transfer the election oversight to an appointed county employee, and the school district asked the county to remove election duties from the clerk and recorder’s office after issues with the school board election this year.Commissioners Joe Briggs, James Larson and Rae Grulkowski and the clerk are Republicans. Zaidi: Giants made comparable offer to $700M deal Shohei Ohtani received from rival Dodgers SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants made three offers to Shohei Ohtani, including a final proposal that president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi called “very comparable if not identical” to the record $700 million, 10-year contract the Japanese two-way star agreed to with the rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Ohtani spent two hours with the Giants for a ballpark meeting with Zaidi, Greg Johnson, former catcher Buster Posey and new manager Bob Melvin on Dec. 2. Zaidi said San Francisco increased its offers to meet Ohtani’s requests. “The proposal that was made was very comparable if not identical to what he wound up agreeing to,” Zaidi said during a conference call Tuesday. But when the Giants got the sense Ohtani seemed to want to stay in Southern California, Zaidi said there was a realization it might be a hard agreement to make happen despite the proposed financial commitment. Also, San Francisco’s executives hadn’t heard anything a couple of d...

Zelenskyy pleads for Ukraine aid at Capitol and White House, says to US: Our fight is yours WASHINGTON (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told America his country was fighting for “our freedom and yours” as he made an impassioned plea Tuesday for Congress to approve more assistance to fight Russia’s invasion. But prospects for additional U.S. aid to Ukraine appeared seriously delayed, if not in grave doubt, despite his whirlwind diplomacy in Washington. After hours of talks on Capitol Hill, Zelenskyy spent more hours at the White House meeting with President Joe Biden and his aides about a way forward. The U.S. has already provided Ukraine $111 billion since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his grinding invasion more than 21 months ago, but Republicans are insisting on linking any more money to strict U.S.-Mexico border security changes that Democrats decry. The White House is warning that if new money isn’t provided by year’s end it will have swift consequences for Ukraine’s capacity to hold its territory, let alone take back land capt...

Nuggets star Nikola Jokic ejected in second quarter against Bulls CHICAGO (AP) — Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic was ejected in the second quarter of Tuesday night's game against the Chicago Bulls. It was unclear what exactly Jokic did to warrant the ejection. It looked as if the two-time NBA MVP felt he was fouled when he missed a reverse layup with 1:12 left, and he said something in the direction of a referee as he made his way back down the court. Is your vehicle legal to drive on I-70 this winter? Here’s what to check Jokic was promptly whistled for a technical and thrown out by official Mousa Dagher. The 7-foot center seemed confused by the sequence before making his way off the court.Jokic finished with four points, nine rebounds and six assists. Tuesday night's game is Denver's only scheduled visit to the United Center this season, and the crowd seemed to register its displeasure with the decision to throw Jokic out.It was a tough blow for a short-handed Denver team that was coming off a 129-122 victory at Atlanta on Monday night. Colorado Polling Institute releases data on public concerns DENVER (KDVR) -- The Colorado Polling Institute just released new survey findings Tuesday. Pollsters surveyed a bipartisan group of likely voters across the state. Some said the results are on par with what state lawmakers have been working on. Others say the poll spotlights where they need to work harder. Who will be on Colorado’s 2024 presidential primary ballots? For many, the CPI poll highlights what they feel about Colorado: living and staying housed in Colorado is getting unaffordable."This complaint is across the state that it is just very expensive to be in this state right now and it's getting worse," said FOX31 political analyst Michael Fields. Both of FOX31's political analysts said they were not surprised to see what people who took the CPI survey said were their top priorities."Colorado obviously has become more expensive and everybody knows that, but we've become more expensive faster than other parts of the country," said FOX31 political analyst Andy Boian. The Instit...
