DETROIT (AP) — General Motors says it will spend $632 million to update its Fort Wayne, Indiana, assembly plant so it can make the next generation of full-size pickup trucks with internal combustion engines. The investment in new conveyors and equipment in the body shop and assembly areas won’t create any new jobs. But GM said on Monday it will keep jobs for about 4,000 people who work at the plant.Construction will start in 2024 at the plant, which now builds the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 light-duty pickup trucks. NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) — Turkey’s president said Monday that any deal resolving Cyprus’ nearly half-century ethnic division must be based on recognition of a breakaway Turkish Cypriot state in the island nation’s northern third.President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks in the north during his first overseas visit after his reelection last month aren’t new, but suggest that Ankara’s policy line on Cyprus remains unwavering, despite international condemnation of the two-state deal proposal that runs contrary to U.N. resolutions calling for a single, federated Cyprus. “No one can bear to waste another 50 years of time,” Erdogan said during a joint news conference with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar. “If there is to be a return to the negotiating table, the only way to do this is to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.”It also dashes hopes harbored by Cyprus’ internationally-recognized government of a speedy return to negotiations, although a spokesman f...Australia vive una intensa temporada de gripe, y podría ser una señal de lo que se avecina en EE.UU.

Author Elizabeth Gilbert, best known for her bestselling debut novel “Eat, Pray, Love,” said Monday her upcoming book won’t be released as scheduled after a backlash from Ukrainians over the tome’s Russian setting. The new novel, titled “The Snow Forest” and set in the middle of Siberia in the 1900s, was supposed to be released in February 2024, coincidentally around the two-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, Gilbert announced she was pausing the project due to a “massive outpouring of reactions” from Ukrainian readers who worried the book would romanticize Russia at a time when the country is accused of committing war crimes.Over the weekend, more than 500 people dished out one-star reviews on the Goodreads platform, while others reacted with frustration to the initial book announcement on Twitter. “I read these messages and I respect them and as a result I am removing the book from its publication,” Gi...Latest news
