VANCOUVER — The British Columbia government says it’s rolling out a new framework for approving oil and gas projects that will ensure the province meets its emissions targets in the coming decades. Premier David Eby says the new framework will require new liquefied natural gas facilities to have a “credible plan” for net-zero emissions by 2030, and there will be an emissions cap on the industry. Eby says his government will also establish a major projects and clean energy office to fast-track proposals that use clean technologies and create jobs. The government will also launch a task force within BC Hydro to speed-up the electrification of the provincial economy with a focus on renewable energy. Environment Minister George Heyman says the new framework ensures industry is under “strong” emissions reduction requirements, while allowing it to seize upon opportunities to use emerging clean energy technologies. A government statement says the new framework...Transportation Safety Board urges better medical screening guidelines for pilots

EDMONTON — The Transportation Safety Board is calling for better screening of heart-related conditions of Canadian pilots. The recommendation comes after at least eight fatal or serious plane crashes between the early 2000s and 2021 — all believed to be linked to heart attacks or cardiovascular diseases among pilots. In a report published Tuesday, the independent federal agency recommended the Department of Transport “establish a framework for routine review and improvement” of its guidelines “to ensure it contains the most effective screening tools for assessing medical conditions,” including cardiovascular health issues. The most recent crash happened in October 2021 in central Alberta when a pilot flying an amateur-built plane died. An investigation into the crash in Lacombe, Alta., found evidence the pilot had a heart attack, but it was impossible to determine exactly when. But this wasn’t the first confirmed crash where cardiovascular disease was deter...Arkansas lawmakers OK anti-abortion monument at Capitol

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A monument marking the number of abortions performed in Arkansas before Roe v. Wade was struck down would be built near the state Capitol under a bill lawmakers sent to Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday. The majority-Republican House approved by a 60-19 vote a proposal allowing the creation of a “monument to the unborn” on the Capitol grounds. The bill, which the Senate approved earlier this month, requires the secretary of state to permit and arrange the placement of the monument. It also requires the Capitol Arts and Grounds Commission to oversee the selection of the artist and the design of the monument with input from anti-abortion groups.Republican Rep. Mary Bentley, the bill’s House sponsor, said the legislation would allow the state to raise private money for a memorial to “remember those children we were not able to protect and we will not be able to forget.”A law Arkansas approved in 2019 banning nearly all abortions took effect last year when t...Johnson, Vallas pick up endorsements, supporters trade barbs on campaign trail for mayor

That included a 15-16 record in 2021-2022, prompting a meeting between the AD and Chris Collins.
