No injuries in Glens Falls house fire GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Multiple fire departments responded to a house fire on Glen Street in Glens Falls around 10 a.m. Thursday. The fire broke out on the second floor of a two-family home. It was empty at the time except for two pets that were evacuated safely. Fire departments are typically busier during the colder months of the year. Firefighters said there are simple steps you can take to stay safe."Please put batteries in your smoke detectors -- that will save everybody," Glens Falls Fire Cpt. Ric Stafford said. "That will help save everybody, get them out of the house in time, and if you have an open door, close that door. That will give you some time."The Red Cross is helping those displaced by the fire. The cause is still under investigation.

Authorities warn of dangerous crimes targeting drivers in SoCal Authorities in Orange County are warning motorists to be aware of two different types of scams targeting drivers, one of which involves a dangerous crash-and-grab style robbery similar to an incident captured on cameras on the 10 Freeway in Los Angeles in late October.  According to officials at California Highway Patrol, thieves staged another crash-and-grab robbery on Nov. 14 at the Beach Boulevard on ramp to the northbound 405 Freeway near the Huntington Beach-Westminster border.  The staged collision involved two suspect vehicles, a maroon Infiniti SUV and a white Ford Explorer.  “Several suspects, dressed in dark clothing and wearing masks, approached the victim’s vehicle, robbed the victim at gunpoint of U.S. currency, jewelry, and fled the scene in the white Ford Explorer,” a CHP news release stated.  Investigators told KTLA’s Orange County Bureau Chief Chip Yost that there have been several such cases in the last few years and that the targets of these vi...

Wonderland noted that the speaker lineup was diverse with 126 females making up almost half of the pack, and they brought with them a diverse array of experiences. 6-year-old boy struck by FedEx driver in Montgomery Co. A child was injured when a FedEx truck struck him Wednesday afternoon in Silver Spring, Maryland, according to Montgomery County police.Officials told WTOP it happened at approximately 4 p.m. in the area of Manchester Road and Schuyler Road. Police responded to the report of a struck pedestrian and found the 6-year-old suffering from minor injuries.Police said the truck driver stopped to ask the child if he was OK, before leaving the scene. Moderate earthquake shakes northeast Myanmar and is felt in northern Thailand BANGKOK (AP) — A moderate earthquake shook northeast Myanmar on Friday morning.The 5.7 magnitude quake was centered about 76 kilometers (47 miles) southwest of the town of Keng Tung in Shan state, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was about 10 kilometers (6 miles) deep.No details on any potential damage were immediately available.The area is near the borders of China, Laos and Thailand.Shaking was felt in Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second-largest city and a popular tourist destination.Source
