One dead in south Austin homicide, APD says AUSTIN (KXAN) -- One person is dead, and the Austin Police Department is investigating the incident as a homicide at a south Austin apartment complex, the agency said during a media briefing on Thursday.At approximately 5:32 p.m., 911 received multiple calls about a disturbance involving a gun at the SOCO Park Apartments, located in the 7200 block of South Congress Avenue, said APD Public Information Officer Alexandra Parker during the briefing.Police said the incident occurred outside but did not specify where at the complex.Officers arrived on scene at 5:36 p.m. and found a man in his 30s with obvious signs of trauma, Parker said. The man, who was not identified Thursday, was pronounced dead on the scene at approximately 5:45 p.m.Additionally, police said no child was injured during the incident.This was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public, Parker said. MN officials approve solar energy expansion to power more than 150K homes Minnesota officials on Thursday approved plans for the expansion of a solar energy project that a utility says will be one of the largest in the country with the capability of powering more than 150,000 homes.The state Public Utilities Commission approved Xcel Energy’s expansion of the Sherco Solar project, adding a 250-megawatt array to a 460-megawatt array now under construction. The utility says all phases of the project will be finished by 2025.The expansion will cost about $406 million, bringing Xcel’s total investment in the project to more than $1 billion, the utility said. The total 710-megawatt project will be enough to power more than 150,000 homes annually.The solar generation will be near an existing coal-fired plant in Becker, Minnesota, northwest of Minneapolis. Pedestrian killed in Jurupa Valley hit-and-run; suspect, damaged vehicle sought  Authorities in Jurupa Valley are searching for a suspect after they fatally struck a pedestrian and fled the scene. According to a release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the 5000 block of Mission Boulevard on calls of a major traffic collision shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Upon arriving at the location, deputies located the victim in the roadway and pronounced them dead on scene.The victim was identified as Jamie Pruitt, 42, of Jurupa Valley. The front passenger side hood, fender and windshield sustained heavy damage. $20 million awarded to family of Lancaster woman killed in DUI crash A jury has awarded $20 million to the family of a woman killed in a DUI crash by a former elementary school principal in Lancaster.The family of Jessica Ordaz, 29, filed the wrongful death lawsuit after Mary Noel Kruppe, 40, killed Ordaz in 2018.On Nov. 15, 2018, Kruppe was driving while intoxicated on 50th Street East near Avenue P in the Palmdale area when she veered into oncoming traffic.She crashed head-on into the vehicle driven by Ordaz, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
