California files lawsuit accusing Huntington Beach of violating affordable housing laws

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and state officials have filed a lawsuit accusing the city of Huntington Beach of violating state housing laws. Newsom and state Attorney General Rob Bonta announced the move at a virtual press conference Thursday, saying they were seeking a preliminary injunction against the city.Bonta said state laws exist “to give more families the ability to help themselves, while helping our state combat a very serious housing shortage.”“Instead, Huntington Beach has decided to slam the door in homeowners' faces,” he said.The lawsuit relates to the Orange County seaside suburb’s recent ban on applications to build housing under the state’s SB 9 and Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) laws, which allow homeowners to build up to four units and backyard cottages on a single-family parcel. (KRON) -- Heavenly Ski Resort will be closed on Friday, March 10 due to the incoming series of atmospheric river storms, the resort announced in a tweet on Thursday."Heavenly will be closed tomorrow, March 10," read a statement attached to the tweet. Police said they have made five arrests in connection to the shooting of a Miami-Dade Police narcotics officer who was making an arrest in Miami, including the man who pulled the trigger.Thirty-two-year-old Steve Gallon IV will be charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer with a firearm. He is the son of Miami-Dade School Board Vice Chair Dr. Steve Gallon III.According to investigators, Gallon IV ambushed the victim while he was arresting another man in the area of Northwest 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue, just after 4 p.m., Wednesday.Hours later, officers apprehended the man who was initially going to be arrested.
