Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 04:01:45 GMT

A surprising visitor has made itself at home in a Pompano Beach neighborhood, and residents are concerned about its proximity to their homes. A crocodile has been spotted lurking in a canal near Northeast 19th Street and Northeast 28th Terrace, venturing out during high tide, possibly in search of food.Gina, who first noticed the creature earlier in the week, couldn’t believe her eyes. “The whole crocodile came out from underneath the dock during high tide and the mullet went running so he was maybe looking for some fish,” said Gina. Concerned for her neighbors’ safety, she called 7News to alert the community. “He’s come up a few times there — was sunning himself, floating in the water,” Gina added. This recent crocodile sighting follows another incident just last week when a crocodile was seen in the Atlantic near the Pompano Pier, leading to the temporary closure of the beach. While it’s uncertain whether this is the same croco...

LONDON (AP) — Growing up in Ethiopia, Yared Markos would often start his days the same way: with coffee. Family members, neighbors and passersby would be drawn in by the strong aroma of fresh beans roasting in a pot, often made by his mother or another family member. Regardless of who they were, all were welcome. And this tradition wasn’t limited to the morning. Coffee, or buna in Amharic, is typically drunk at the end of each meal. Drinking coffee was a communal experience for Markos, so when he first immigrated to London from Ethiopia 23 years ago, the culture shock hit hard.“They sell our coffee in Starbucks and other places but they don’t follow our traditions,” said Markos, who has owned Kaffa Coffee since 2004. The shop, now in the East London neighborhood of Dalton, hosts coffee ceremonies every weekend in the summer, as well as during cultural events year round, and special orders.“Tourists will walk by and smell the coffee and come in asking questions,” Markos said. “It make...
