If anybody except Nuggets center Nikola Jokic wins the MVP, we all should demand a recount. But let me tell you something, brother. Want to know the last man in the NBA universe that will be sweating the results when the winner is revealed Tuesday? It’s the same Joker that dropped 39 points on Phoenix in the playoffs Monday night and incited the Ball Arena crowd to chant “Nugs in four!” during a celebration of a 97-87 comeback victory.“Hopefully it’s going to be a sunny day, so I can be in the swimming pool,” said Jokic, revealing where his head will be when the league’s most prestigious individual award is announced. How on brand is that? On a beautiful spring afternoon in Colorado when Jokic could become the first player since 1986 when some dude named Larry Bird was saluted as the league’s MVP three seasons in a row, Jokic will consider it a victory if he doesn’t get sunburned. His level of concern about the voting results?“Zero interest,” Jokic said.I’m not a gambling man, but if La...Former shareholders sell their 30% stake in Russia’s largest children's goods retailer Detsky Mir

A new European attempt is under way to get more traction from the enormous international efforts devoted to combating cancer. The huge advances in diagnosis and treatment brought by rapid advances in science and technology have brought significant improvements, backed by major investments in research and the numerous initiatives and projects and actions that have been set up around the world. But the outcome is still sub-optimal, and cancer continues to ravage society in Europe and beyond. YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) — Trevor Bauer will pitch his first official game for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars on Wednesday and, to promote the start, a local department store is to unveil a seven-story poster of the former Cy Young Award winner on its facade.Bauer was unwanted this season by Major League Baseball teams — at least no club signed him though he was eligible to play — after claims of domestic violence and sexual assault. However, he's a baseball celebrity in this famous port city in Japan, with few questions asked about his past — and his answers readily accepted.Small replica posters of the department store version dot train stations around town spelling out “Bauer” in English with the message in Japanese — “He's here.”“My face is too big,” Bauer said recently, breaking into a seldom-seen laugh with reporters. “It's very cool. After two years of trading away their best players and re-stocking the roster with journeymen veterans and mid-level prospects, the A’s roster has the look of an expansion team. And they are playing like one. They are 6-23 after 29 games, being outscored by historic proportions, lacking so much as a single victory from a starting pitcher and still looking for back-to-back wins as a team. After a 5-4 walk-off victory Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds, the A’s will be gunning for that elusive two-game winning streak Tuesday when they open a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners.A fan watches from the stands with a bag over his head during the fourth inning of a baseball game between the Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland Athletics Wednesday, April 26, 2023, in Anaheim, Calif. There’s little doubt California’s economy is cooling – but will it tumble into recession? It’s no secret that much of the ongoing business malaise can be tied to the Federal Reserve’s efforts to cool an overheated U.S. economy and tame an ugly bout of inflation. The Fed’s rate hikes are an especially powerful economic depressant to California’s high-cost economy.Don’t forget, this kind of economic management often ends with a recession. California’s economic downturns of the early 1980s and 1990s, the dot-com crash of 2000, and the Great Recession were all preceded by sharp increases in interest rates. So can California avoid what might seem like the inevitability of yet another Fed-induced downturn? How slow?Look at some signals of the cooldown.California’s gross domestic product grew just 0.4% last year. Only coronavirus-chilled 2020 was a more lethargic year for state businesses since the 2008-09 Great Recession.California home s...Los Gatos ranked 26th most expensive city in California: Here’s why
