SF Giants’ Logan Webb on Tim Anderson ejection: ‘I’m not gonna listen to that’ CHICAGO — The Giants and White Sox, meeting here for the first time since 2017, aren’t exactly traditional rivals. But their first two games have each produced heated moments that just might make you think as much. The White Sox beat the Giants and Logan Webb on Wednesday, 7-3, but their star shortstop, Tim Anderson, wasn’t around long to enjoy it. He was ejected by home plate umpire D.J. Reyburn in the third inning after taking strike three and proceeding to shout at Webb from the dugout. The incident came a game after Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani and White Sox first baseman Andrew Vaughn exchanged words and had to be separated.Anderson’s ejection, of course, wasn’t that straightforward.Anderson, who left without addressing reporters, appeared to believe Webb quick-pitched him on the called strike three. Under the new rules, batters only get one called timeout per plate appearance, and Anderson exhausted his after the previous pitch. When he stepped back...

Get ready to celebrate the 408 at San Jose Day this weekend

Get ready to celebrate the 408 at San Jose Day this weekend I used to worry that nobody loved San Jose the way they did when I was a kid in the 1970s and ’80s, and that all the time we spend online left people with less of a connection to where they lived. Those of us who did love San Jose were getting gray and sometimes even our passion was cooling a bit.It turns out there’s no real need to worry, and one of the reasons is San Jose Day. You may not have heard about this, but there’s a huge, free event on Saturday — 4/08 on your calendar — at the Mexican Heritage Plaza to celebrate. It’ll have food trucks, live music, craft vendors, an art gallery and a car show. It’s everything San Joseans love besides orange sauce, swirls at Aqui and complaining about San Jose. What I really like about this event is who is putting it together. The eclectic collective behind San Jose Day is led by Haley Cardamon, Alejandro Berber, Jorge “J. Duh” Camacho, Carman Gaines, Patricia Stokes and Esther Young.Th...

Santa Clara considering legal action against 49ers over withholding 2026 FIFA World Cup documents Santa Clara is considering legal action against the 49ers management company, claiming the agency hasn’t turned over critical information to help the city prepare to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.Last June, FIFA announced Levi’s Stadium would be one of 16 U.S. venues to host the 2026 World Cup. But at this week’s Santa Clara City Council meeting, Mayor Lisa Gillmor said the 49ers — who manage non-NFL events at the city-owned stadium — failed to meet a Feb. 1 deadline set by the Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury to provide the city with key documents related to the 2026 World Cup.With three years to go before the major event comes to Santa Clara, the council is considering subpoenaing the 49ers or using other legal methods to pry the documents loose if they can’t obtain them in the next month or so.While the team did turn over some documents, Gillmor said they didn’t include information about the city’s requirements.“Other commun...
