GARY, Ind. — A Gary Police Department K-9 was shot and killed by a suspect during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon, officials said.During a traffic stop in the 1000 block of East 35th Court, Chief Anthony Titus said the K-9, Falco, and an officer were running after a suspect when the suspect fired shots at them.Read more: Latest Chicago news headlinesTitus said Falco was fatally wounded. CHICAGO — A person who was trapped under a car after being hit by a hit-and-run driver Thursday afternoon in Garfield Park has died, according to Chicago police.Just before 1 p.m., the male, who hasn't been identified, was struck by the driver of a white Chevy Malibu in the 800 block of South Pulaski Road. Police: 21-year-old Mariano’s employee shot, killed inside Evergreen Park store The person was trapped under the car as the hit-and-run driver kept driving southbound and left the area, police said.The person who was hit was taken to Mt. (AP) — The World Health Organization's cancer agency has deemed the sweetener aspartame — found in diet soda and countless other foods — as a “possible” cause of cancer, while a separate expert group looking at the same evidence said it still considers the sugar substitute safe in limited quantities.The differing results of the coordinated reviews were released early Friday. One came from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, a special branch of the WHO. CHICAGO — Police in Chicago are seeking the public's help in identifying a utility truck driver who allegedly struck a bicyclist. The hit-and-run incident occurred July 11 in the 2700 block of N. Lincoln Ave., in Lincoln Park, just before noon.According to police, the female cyclist was struck by a white and black utility truck hauling a trailer. LLANO COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A brush fire that began burning at a ranch Thursday afternoon has now grown to scorch 150 acres and is 10% contained as of just before 5 p.m.The Llano County Office of Emergency Management posted on its Facebook page that at least 10 agencies are now responding to the fire located near East Highway 71 and County Road 307. Crews also have CR 307 shut down right now due to the ongoing response. Initially, first responders told KXAN the fire began on a ranch property. As of 2 p.m., the growing fire caused no evacuations.
